A Brentwood man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Sunday morning after crashing his sport utility vehicle in Dix Hills and seriously injuring his passenger, Suffolk police said.

Raphael Guerrero, 37, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe south on Deer Park Road about 4:50 a.m. when he lost control in front of 247 Deer Park Rd., police said.

The vehicle hit a curb, drove onto a grassy embankment and hit a decorative stone in front of a house and a utility pole before overturning, police said.

Guerrero sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and his passenger, Cesar S. Montano, 24, of Virginia, suffered serious injuries in the crash, police said. Both were taken to Huntington Hospital.

Guerrero's arraignment is pending. The car was impounded for a safety check, and the vehicular crime unit is investigating.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
