A motorist lost control of her SUV Wednesday morning in Deer Park, striking and killing a woman standing outside a car, Suffolk police said.

The driver, 80, who Newsday is not identifying because she is not facing criminal charges, was parked in a handicap space in front of 1944 Deer Park Ave at 10:30 a.m. when she lost control of her 2020 Toyota Rav4, authorities said.

The SUV hopped two curbs and entered the rear parking lot of 1948 Deer Park Ave., where it struck Mary Ferrara, who was standing outside her 2010 Ford Fusion, police said.

The Toyota then continued through the parking lot, hopping another curb and driving through some bushes before eventually stopping in the parking lot of 1960 Deer Park Ave., officials said.

Ferrara, 85, of Deer Park, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center where she died from her injuries. The driver did not require medical attention.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
