A driver was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries after being ejected from his car in a one-car crash late Thursday night on Sunrise Highway in Yaphank, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash occurred on the westbound roadway at about 10:20 p.m., sheriffs said.

The identity of the driver has not been released -- and his condition was unknown.

Sheriffs said there did not appear to be any criminality.

The crash site was near the Yaphank Avenue exit. The car crashed into a wooded area, sheriffs said.

The westbound roadway was closed for several hours after the crash, but has since been reopened. The investigation is continuing Friday.
