A Medford man was drunk and speeding late Tuesday when he rear-ended a car, then sideswiped a sport utility vehicle on the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk County police said.

The 10:48 p.m. accident closed the eastbound LIE between Exits 64 and 65 in Medford for a short time and caused "minor injuries" to the driver and three passengers of a 2012 Kia Sorento, police said.

The injured -- a father, mother and their daughters, ages 6 and 10 -- were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Keiron Persad, 25, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander and rear-ended the Sorento, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, police said.

He was arraigned Wednesday and expected to post a bail of $500 cash or $1,000 bond.

Persad was driving at a "high rate of speed" when he rear-ended the Sorento and then sideswiped a 2004 Lincoln Navigator, a police spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Neither Persad nor any of the four persons in the Navigator was injured, police said.
