A driver whose BMW sedan was dragged about 100 yards after being pinned under a tractor trailer in Melville Monday was freed by hydraulic cutting equipment, a fire official said.

The driver was then taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with "non-life-threatening" injuries, Carrieri said.

"His right leg was pinned near the dash and down to the brake pedal," Carrieri said.

He said emergency units responded after police received a call for a crash on northbound Route 110, just south of the Long Island Expressway, at about 11:19 a.m.

"From the time we responded to the time he was removed, it took about eight minutes," Carrieri said.

The car and the tractor trailer, a U.S. Postal Service vehicle, were driving northbound when the car became stuck under the truck, Carrieri said.

The truck driver traveled about 100 yards before realizing the car was pinned, Carrieri and police at the scene said.
