A Honda Civic overturned Friday on the Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma after its driver struck the dislodged wheel of another vehicle, authorities said.
The incident, which resulted in only minor injuries to the male driver of the Honda, happened on the westbound expressway, just before noon near Exit 59, the Suffolk County sheriff's office said.
A Jeep traveling westbound developed a wobbly wheel, and as it tried to pull over it lost the wheel. The driver of the Honda struck the stray wheel, flipping his vehicle, authorities said.
The driver of the Honda was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center with minor injuries, authorities said.
Both the HOV lane and the left lane were closed for about 35 minutes as police cleared the expressway of debris and the overturned vehicle.
Police did not release the names of the drivers. The male driver of the Jeep was not injured.
