Driver in Sunrise crash allegedly high
The operator of a black Nissan was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after an accident Thursday morning that briefly closed the westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway in West Islip, officials said.
The driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center with head and face lacerations and is still at the hospital, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department. The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and has been released.
The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department was investigating the accident, which occurred east of the Robert Moses Causeway at 9:09 a.m. The westbound Sunrise Highway lanes were re-opened at 10:32 a.m., the sheriff's office said.
