A driver was pronounced dead at the scene after he crashed into a telephone pole in Port Jefferson Station Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.

The one-car crash took down wires at about 8:12 p.m. at Route 347 and Woodhull Avenue, police said.

At 11 p.m., Route 347 was still shut between Old Town Road and Broadway, authorities said. Police said the traffic lights were not working and repairs had been ordered.

Other details were not immediately available.
