Driver seriously hurt in Brentwood crash, police say

A Central Islip man had serious head injuries after crashing his sport utility vehicle into a tree in Brentwood early Monday, Suffolk County police said.
Wilson Ortega, 24, was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with serious head injuries after he lost control of his 1997 Toyota 4Runner at about 12:03 a.m., a police spokeswoman said.
Ortega was driving east on Second Avenue, near Claywood Drive, when the accident occurred, she said.
No criminality is suspected, but police impounded the SUV for a safety check, she said.
