A car struck a utility pole along Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst on Saturday night, leaving the driver seriously injured, Suffolk police said.
The crash occurred about 8:15 p.m., just east of the Wellwood Avenue ramp.
The North Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to the scene, and firefighters freed the unidentified driver from the crushed vehicle in less than five minutes, a member of the department said Saturday night.
The vehicle was "wrapped around" the pole, he said.
