Suffolk County police are searching for the driver of a vehicle who they say struck and killed a pedestrian early Sunday before fleeing the scene in Huntington Station.

Police said the pedestrian was crossing New York Avenue north of East 12th Street shortly after 3 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle going south on New York Avenue.

The vehicle did not stop, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and has not been identified pending notification of his next of kin.

Police said the vehicle was described as a full-sized, dark-colored sedan and asked anyone with information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-220-TIPS.
