A motorist who collided with a truck in Southampton on Tuesday afternoon was in stable condition Wednesday at Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Sections of County Road 39 between North and Hills Station roads were closed for about six hours as the accident was investigated and debris cleared, Southampton Town police said.

The driver of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz veered into the truck driver's lane in the vicinity of 2036 County Rd. 39 shortly before 2 p.m., police said. The identity of the injured motorist was not released.

The driver of the 2004 Western Star truck refused medical attention, police said. His name was not released.

Both vehicles were impounded pending an investigation, police said.
