An East Patchogue man is in critical condition after being hit by a drunken driver Saturday night while crossing a street in the hamlet, Suffolk police said.

Darwin Lopez, 27, was crossing Main Street at Evergreen Avenue at 6:24 p.m. when a 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by Jose Pina, 49, also of East Patchogue, hit him, police said.

North Patchogue Ambulance transported Lopez to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Pina was charged with driving while intoxicated and held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment Sunday in First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

Attorney information for Pina wasn’t immediately available.
