Huntington Station man drove drunk with kids in car, cops say

A Huntington Station man was charged Saturday night with driving while intoxicated with his two children in his car after he hit a parked vehicle, Suffolk County police said.

Duhaney Duncan, 42, drove his 2005 Dodge pickup west on the shoulder of Jericho Turnpike around 7:55 p.m., striking a Nissan minivan in front of Brooklyn Pizza, 881 Jericho Tpke., in Huntington Station, police said.

His two children, ages 1 and 2, were not injured, police said.

Duncan, of Oak Crest Drive, was charged with two counts of child endangerment, and with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child 15 years old or younger, a violation of Leandra's Law.

Leandra's Law was passed in 2009 after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed when the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.

The driver pleaded guilty in the crash and admitted she had been drunk while at the wheel.

Duncan, who was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip, was held on $75,000 bond or $25,000 cash. A temporary order of protection was issued and his next court appearance is May 2.
