The driver of a dump truck was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center Monday morning after he lost control of the vehicle in Miller Place, crashing into a utility pole and overturning it, police said.

The single-vehicle 8:15 a.m. accident forced the closure of North Country Road, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the road reopened at about 2 p.m., after emergency crews from LIPA and Verizon had repaired the damaged pole and lines.

There were no reported power outages in the area.

Police said the injured driver, Gregory Vanostrand, 34, of Port Jefferson, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

He was cited for second-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and police said the motor carrier team responded to conduct a safety check of the dump truck.
