A suspected drunken driver in Ronkonkoma was arrested Saturday night at the same place where police were investigating an earlier fatal crash.

Police say that the driver, Dominick Dimola, was headed east on westbound Veterans Memorial Highway near Lakeland Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. An officer at the scene of the earlier investigation spotted him driving the wrong way and pulled him over in a parking lot, police said. Police had closed the road to eastbound traffic at the crash scene.

Dimola, 61, of 15 Pamlico Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, police said.

The unrelated crash involved a man who police said had just robbed someone at gunpoint who was struck by a car and killed. No one was charged in that crash.
