A Connecticut man stopped for backing up his car unsafely Thursday in Southampton faces a drunken driving charge, State Police said.

At about 2:25 a.m., a trooper pulled over Tyler Gore, 22, of Fairfield, Conn., for backing up his gray Pontiac on the south side of North Sea Road near County Route 39.

In an interview, the trooper detected a strong odor of alcohol on Gore, according to a news release. Gore failed sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.

He provided a breath-analyzer sample of .15 percent and is charged with DWI and traffic violations.

Gore is scheduled to appear June 13 in Southampton Town Justice Court.
