A Centerport man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Sunday after his pickup struck two utility poles in South Huntington, seriously injuring his passenger, Suffolk police said.

Richard Heiser, 31, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet truck east on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington about 1 a.m. Sunday. As he made a left turn onto Broadway, police said, the truck went out of control and hit the two poles.

Heiser had minor injuries in the crash, but his passenger, Jennifer Todero, 34, also of Centerport, seriously injured her leg.

Both Heiser and Todero were taken to Huntington Hospital, but Todero was later transported to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where she was listed in serious condition.

Heiser was charged with driving while intoxicated. He was ordered held on $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond at his arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.

Heiser is scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 23.
