DWI, crack charges in Southampton
Southampton Town police arrested three people on charges of driving while intoxicated and one on a possession of crack cocaine charge in a handful of arrests Thursday and Friday.
The three DWI arrests were made within an hour and a half Friday morning, two in Riverside and the other in North Sea. The crack possession arrest was Thursday in Riverside.
In the first DWI arrest, officers stopped David A. Avelar, 23, of Flanders, at 1:09 a.m. as he drove on Flanders Road. He was also cited for multiple infractions.
The second DWI arrest came at 1:52 a.m., also on Flanders Road, after officers stopped Douglas B. Masterson, 48, of St. Petersburg, Fla.
The third arrest was made on Warfield Way in North Sea at 2:44 a.m., after officers stopped Peter A. Lecompte, 50, of North Sea, on suspicion of speeding and failure to maintain his travel lane. Police said an investigation revealed Lecompte was intoxicated and he was arrested.
Police said in a news release that Lecompte then "intentionally urinated all over the floor of the holding cell" at headquarters and also was charged with third-degree criminal tampering, a misdemeanor.
The possession arrest was made Thursday in Riverside after officers investigating a dispute found Robert Langhorne, 45, of Riverside in the area and found he had crack cocaine, police said.
He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and issued an appearance ticket.
Avelar, Masterson and Lecompte are all scheduled for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court Friday.
