Two cars crashed in East Northport on Friday evening, sending three people to hospitals, including an elderly woman with critical injuries, Suffolk police said.

Lucy DiPietro, 71, had pulled out of the shopping center at 3124 Jericho Turnpike near Verleye Avenue about 6 p.m. when her Buick was hit by an eastbound Mazda in the turnpike's left lane, police said.

DiPietro, of Smithtown, was airlifted with life-threatening injuries to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

DiPietro's husband, Matthew, 76, was taken to Huntington Hospital, where he was in critical condition Friday night, police said.

The driver of the Mazda, Jessica Rinn, 23, of Smithtown, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Huntington, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8252.
