A 52-year-old East Patchogue man struck by a car early Friday was in critical condition at Stony Brook University Hospital with head injuries, Suffolk County police said Friday night.

Police said Robert Raymer was crossing East Main Street at Grove Avenue just after midnight when he was struck by a 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Frantz Dubois of East Maple Street in Central Islip.

Police said he had serious head trauma and had not been breathing on his own when he was airlifted to the hospital.

Raymer was treated at the scene by volunteers from the North Patchogue Fire Department Rescue Squad

Dubois, who was not injured, remained at the scene and was not charged.

Police said the Toyota was impounded for a safety check and that the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the accident is being asked to call Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.
