East Hampton Town police said they rescued three people from a sinking boat Saturday night.

Police and the U.S. Coast Guard were dispatched off Montauk Point shortly after 6 p.m. to a report of a vessel in distress, authorities said.

East Hampton police responded to the boat, which was taking on water near Amagansett. Police said officers intentionally ran the boat aground at Napeague State Park, where three people on board were rescued.

No injuries were reported. Authorities said they did not have an initial cause for the boat's distress.
