A July 11 arraignment date has been set for the owners of the 27 Inn in East Hampton to answer charges that there are 61 violations of the state’s Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code on the premises.

The alleged violations include missing or inoperable smoke detectors, missing carbon monoxide detectors, electrical junction boxes with exposed wires, extension cords instead of permanent wiring, exterior lights suspended by live electrical wires in second-story units, and combustible debris in the basement, such as old mattresses and cardboard boxes.

A spokesperson for the owners of the property, Hamptons Land Corporation, could not be reached for comment but East Hampton Town Chief Fire Marshal David Browne said the onsite manager of the property is expected to begin repairs “immediately.”

Browne announced the alleged violations in a news release issued June 17 after he said investigators from his office had discovered the infractions during a recently concluded probe of complaints made last summer about overcrowding at the Montauk Highway motel.

The arraignment will be held in East Hampton Town Justice Court.
