Suffolk County Police arrested a man on a charge of boating while intoxicated in North Channel off Heckscher Point early Saturday morning, police said.

Officers from the police Marine Bureau were on routine patrol when they saw a powerboat driving erratically about 1:20 a.m., police said

The driver, Christopher Meditz, of Simmons Drive in East Islip, appeared to be confused and disoriented, police said.

Meditz, 28, told police he had been drinking at an Oakdale restaurant and was driving his 30-foot Wellcraft Scarab to West Islip.

Meditz was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated. He is being held at the Third Precinct and will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
