A plant nursery employee was killed Wednesday when a box truck hit her as it was backing up in East Moriches, Suffolk police said.

Julia Molina, 49, who worked for Kurt Weiss Greenhouses, was struck about 11 a.m. by the truck as it was driven by a fellow employee on the north service road of Sunrise Highway by Chapman Boulevard, police said. The collision occurred next to property owned by the nursery, police said.

Molina, of Mastic, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The unidentified driver stayed at the scene, where police conducted a safety check of the truck, officials said.

Homicide detectives are investigating, police said, and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also notified.
