East Patchogue man killed on Sunrise Highway in Bohemia
Suffolk police are investigating why a man was walking on Sunrise Highway in Bohemia before he was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer late Friday.
Gary Abrams, 54, of East Patchogue, was in the middle lane of the roadway when he was stuck at 10:14 p.m., police said.
It was not immediately clear what Abrams was doing on the road or how close he was to an intersection.
The driver, Tiago Teixeira, 27, of Washington, N.J., was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway when the incident occurred, according to police.
Abrams was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed.
