An East Patchogue woman and her 9-year-old son were bitten by a loose pit bull Thursday, police said.

The attack took place in front of the family’s home on Oak Street near Washington Avenue about 3:45 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

Both were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

The pit bull was removed by a Brookhaven Town animal control officer, police said.
