A man died in a construction accident in East Quogue on Friday afternoon, Southampton Town police confirmed Sunday.

Officers responded to a report of a person buried in a collapsed ditch on Lewis Road at 1:10 p.m. Friday.

The East Quogue Fire Department and an ambulance were also dispatched to the scene.

The victim, who hasn't been identified, was pulled out of the dirt and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, town police said. It wasn't immediately known if the man died during the accident or at the hospital.

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration officials are also investigating, police said.
