Easter Sunday weather to be warmer
Expect less rain and warmer temperatures for Easter Sunday.
The day's maximum temperatures will likely range from the low 60s out east at Montauk to the mid- to upper 60s in central Suffolk and Nassau and perhaps into the 70s closer to New York City, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.
The rain was expected to taper off through the night and temperatures will likely warm, said meteorologist David Stark. The wind will shift to a southwesterly direction, bringing warmer air from the continent because of a warm front that is passing across the Northeast, he said.
The warmer temperatures could bring the possibility of early morning fog Sunday, but that is predicted to lift by around sunrise, Stark said.
The service said it may rain or drizzle before 9 a.m. After 3 p.m., showers are likely.
If you felt a little chilly Saturday, the weather service confirms Long Island's temperatures, ranging in the lower to mid-50s, were 5-10 degrees below normal for this time of year -- brought about by a southerly wind bringing cooler air off the Atlantic.
And though the rain might have felt heavy at times, it was fairly even across the Island, Stark said. By 3 p.m., .98 of an inch had fallen at Islip since midnight, .90 of an inch at Brookhaven, .85 at Westhampton and .70 at Farmingdale. The low clouds, however, caused average flight delays of around 90 minutes at Kennedy Airport, the FAA reported in the late afternoon.
