A Shirley man is dead after he lost control of his vehicle and it struck a tree, Suffolk County police said Wednesday.

Police said Edward Korianski, 57, was driving a 2008 Chrysler Aspen south on Margine Drive West in Shirley when he apparently lost control of the SUV about 2:35 p.m. Police said the Chrysler careened through a vacant lot at the corner of Pheasant Way, then hit a tree.

Korianski was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The investigation is continuing, and the SUV was impounded for a safety check, police said.
