An 86-year-old man from Commack was killed Tuesday evening in a crash on Route 25 in Commack, police said.

Suffolk County police said Johannes Degruyl was driving a 2003 Saturn and tried to turn left out of a KFC restaurant parking lot when his car was struck by an eastbound 2011 Nissan Sentra driven by Nicholas Formica, 18, of Commack. Degruyl was taken to nearby St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, where he was pronounced dead at 6:07 p.m., police said.

Formica also was taken to St. Catherine, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, police said. He was not charged.

Two other vehicles were struck in the crash, police said. One was parked and unoccupied. There was some minor damage, but no one was injured.

The Nissan, the Saturn and one of the two other cars were impounded for safety checks.

The crash scene was just east of Kings Park Road.
