Two elderly passengers were hospitalized after falling down an escalator at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma Saturday.

The man and woman were riding an escalator near the east concourse checkpoint in the Southwest Airlines terminal when they fell around 3 p.m., according to Islip Town spokeswoman Caroline Smith.

Northwell Health and the Holbrook Fire Department responded and transported the victims to Stony Brook University Hospital, Smith said.

They both sustained serious but noncritical injuries, Smith said.

It’s not clear if the escalator was moving at the time of the incident or had malfunctioned.

Smith identified the man and woman as arriving passengers but did not say whether they were related to each other.

Suffolk County police did not have any additional information on the incident.
