Event to build Rep. Bishop's war chest

Girding for a major financial battle, Suffolk Democratic Chairman Richard Schaffer and County Executive Steve Bellone are hosting a $250-per-person fundraiser for Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) on May 1; they hope to raise $100,000.
Schaffer said invitations went out to 1,200 potential donors last week for the Bay Shore event.
Bishop, who won by 593 votes in 2010, faces a likely rematch with GOP businessman Randy Altschuler, who spent $4.5 million in the nation's tightest congressional race, nearly $3 million of it his own. Bishop's campaign spent $3 million. Altschuler faces a likely GOP primary rematch against George Demos on June 26.-- Rick Brand
