A pet alligator and several other exotic animals were stolen from a Mastic pet store, Suffolk police said Monday.

"Alli," a 3 1/2 foot long American alligator, was taken, along with three boa constrictors, and a 5-foot long Argentine red tegu lizard, from the Animal Hut, 1280 B. Montauk Highway, Mastic, between Sunday evening and 7 p.m., Monday, Suffolk police said.

The total value of the animals was estimated to be $1,500, according to Det. Sgt. John Sumalt, but while the other animals were for sale, the alligator was not going to be sold.

"The alligator was his pet, and not for sale," Sumalt said.

Seventh squad detectives are investigating and asked that anyone with information contact them at 631-852-8735 or through Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
