Police are searching for whoever left a "false bomb" at a Target store in Riverhead Tuesday, they said.

The suspicious item was left inside the Target on Old Country Road, police said. An employee found it at 4:37 p.m. and moved it to the parking lot before it was examined by Suffolk County police Emergency Services Unit officers, police said.

"The device was examined by members of the Emergency Services Unit and determined not to contain any explosives," Riverhead Town police said.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
