Family flees Dix Hills house fire through window
A couple and their son fled through a window early Friday to escape a raging house fire in Dix Hills that killed two dogs and caused "extensive damage" to one side of the home, a fire official said.
The couple and their son were not injured in the fire at the one-story ranch on Stoll Court, which was reported at 12:51 a.m., according to officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though it is believed to have been sparked by a nearby barbecue grill that had been used earlier.
The fire official said the three residents fled the house through a window in the master bedroom.
About 55 volunteers from Dix Hills, Greenlawn and Huntington Manor responded, while Commack firefighters provided mutual aid.
