A worker at Farmingdale State College was critically injured when he was struck by a car while crossing Route 110 in East Farmingdale, police said.

Thomas Dowdney, 56, of Pennsylvania, was struck at 11:30 a.m. by a southbound 2008 BMW at Melville Road, Suffolk County police said.

Dowdney was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was in critical condition with back and head injuries, police said.

The BMW driver, Gary Lewis, 52, of Dix Hills, was not injured. His car was impounded for a safety inspection.
