An 18-year-old woman was struck and critically injured Monday night by a Long Island Railroad train in Farmingdale, a LIRR spokeswomen said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, she said.

The teenager was struck by an eastbound equipment train at the Clinton Avenue crossing at 9:09 p.m., the railroad said.

Susan McGowan, a railroad spokeswoman, said the gates at that crossing were operational and were down at the time of the incident.

MTA police are investigating, she said.

The 8:15 p.m. passenger train from Penn Station, due in Ronkonkoma at 9:37 p.m., was delayed 68 minutes as a result of the incident, another LIRR spokeswoman said.
