A man was killed and four other people were injured in Hauppauge early Monday morning in a crash involving two vehicles, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The man, Brendan Haverty, 26, of Riverhead, was a passenger in one of the vehicles, according to the department press office.

The crash happened around 1:35 a.m. as Daneris Garcia Marquez was driving a 2011 Ford Econoline west on Route 347 when she hit a 2019 Toyota Camry going north on Brooksite Drive that was being driven by Abhishek Mukherjee, the release said. Haverty was in the Toyota.

Footage from the crash scene showed a severely damaged vehicle on the side of the road and an overturned van in the right lane with its roof removed.

Mukherjee, 42, of Hicksville, and Marquez, 19, of Wyandanch, were brought to Stony Brook University Hospital to treat serious injuries. Two men, ages 18 and 25, who were passengers in the van, were also brought to Stony Brook for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, the release said.

Mukherjee's wife, Supi, said she didn't know much about the crash or how her husband is doing. She is waiting for answers at the hospital.

"We are just waiting," she said. "I have no clue. I just know he's in the hospital."

The release did not say how fast the drivers were traveling, who had the right of way or other details relating to the cause.

The press office said no one has been criminally charged, ticketed or issued a summons in connection with the crash.
