A two-vehicle collision  killed one of the drivers and forced police to close northbound Route 110 in Melville on Thursday.

Suffolk County police said David Gange, 31, of Melville, was northbound on Route 110 when his 2022 Audi struck the rear of a 2020 Freightliner truck stopped at a traffic light at the intersection with Duryea Road.

Gange was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, a 48-year-old man from Newark, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
