Police have identified the man killed and the woman seriously injured after they were struck by a man charged with driving while intoxicated in Islip on Christmas Day, authorities said.

An 18-year-old from Bay Shore is charged with DWI for striking the pedestrians on Saturday, according to Suffolk police.

Police identified the man who was killed as Luis Trujillo, 67, of Islip and the seriously injured woman as Veronica Deleon, 47, of Brentwood.

Police said the 18-year-old driver was in a 2004 Honda Pilot on Union Boulevard near Johnston Drive at about 2:44 p.m. when the SUV left the road and struck the man and woman walking in front of an apartment building.

Police did not release the identity of the driver in a news release because he was charged with a misdemeanor.

Trujillo was pronounced deceased at the scene by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said. Deleon was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

The 18-year-old driver also hit a parked 2001 Toyota Camry, an electronic pedestrian crossing sign and a tree, police said. He was taken to South Shore University Hospital, police said.

The driver was arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday. The Honda was impounded.
