An 85-year-old man was fatally struck crossing Main Street in Huntington on Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Richard Lucian, of Cold Spring Harbor, tried to cross the road when a westbound 2022 Ford driven by Leonard Bilski, a 60-year-old St. James man, rounded a corner and crashed into him around 7:40 a.m. according to police.

Lucian was taken to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police impounded the Ford for a safety check.

“I couldn’t stop crying,” Bilski said in a phone interview. “I didn’t want to go to the hospital, but my blood pressure was so high they made me go.”

He said that his front windshield was broken, but otherwise the vehicle was unharmed.

“I feel so bad for his family,” Bilski said. “Tell them I’m so sorry.”

Lucian’s family could not be reached for comment.

Police said the crash was under investigation and asked that anyone with information about the incident call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
