A Long Island Rail Road train bound for Montauk struck and killed a male pedestrian along the tracks Monday evening in Southampton, an MTA spokesperson said.

MTA Police are investigating the fatality. They have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.

MTA spokesperson Aaron Donovan said the strike occurred west of the Hills Station Road bridge at about 7 p.m. and said it involved the 4:30 p.m. train from Hunterspoint Avenue, which was due to arrive in Montauk at 7:44 p.m.

No criminality is suspected, the MTA said.

The incident forced the train to be terminated at Hampton Bays, with passengers transported by buses for service east to Montauk, the MTA said.

Service on the Montauk Branch was suspended east of Speonk until 10:39 p.m., causing the 6:17 p.m. train from Jamaica to Montauk to be terminated at Speonk. The 10:05 p.m. train from Montauk instead departed from Speonk at 11:25 p.m., with passengers transported via bus from all stations from Montauk through Westhampton, the MTA said.

Service was restored east of Speonk with the 8:52 p.m. train from Jamaica, which arrived in Montauk at 11:46 p.m.
