FBI gang task force nabs N. Amityville men

Federal authorities announced Wednesday an FBI gang task force made six more arrests "related to gang activities," bringing the unit's number of arrests on Long Island to 40, according to a news release by the U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York.

The six were arrested Tuesday on narcotics conspiracy violations, the release said, and all but one is from North Amityville. One is from Copiague, authorities said.

The Long Island Gang Task Force was established in 2004 and geared toward stopping the increase of violent crimes in selected communities.

"These arrests represent the continued success of the Long Island Gang Task Force working together to make our communities safer," agent Michael J. Ferrandino said in a statement. "However, we know our work with will not be complete until the violent activities that these gangs are carrying out on our streets are stopped."

Those arrested are:

Rashaan Corbin, 32, North Amityville

Fausto Cruz, 41, Copiague

Charles Hickson, 35, North Amityville

Terrance Mason, 30, North Amityville

Curtis Sherrar, 30, North Amityville

Rhamel Stanford, 24, North Amityville

One of the suspects has ties to the Crips street gang, authorities said. That suspect was not specified.

Also assisting the FBI in the task force are the Suffolk County Police Department's Patrol Special Operations Team, the U.S. Marshals Service Long Island Fugitive Task Force, New York State Parole and the Suffolk County Probation Department.
