A 20-year-old Centereach man was ordered held without bail Friday in the beating death of his fiancee's 90-year-old grandmother.

Robert Waters was charged with murder in the death Tuesday night of Florence Trosani in her home, which she shared with her daughter and Waters, on West Court Drive in Centereach.

Defense attorney Eric Naiburg said outside court in Central Islip that Waters had suffered seizures in the past and he was pursuing his medical history as a possible defense in the case.

An affidavit filed in court in Central Islip said Waters beat Trosani with his fists and told police: "Grandma's gone. There's nothing I can do about it. I'm responsible."
