One Long Island member of the State Assembly lost her seat last night while two others were struggling to hold on to theirs.

In the 5th District, incumbent Assemb. Ginny Fields lost to Republican Alfred Graf, a Holbrook attorney and retired New York City police officer. Fields, who ran on the Independence and Working Families party lines, finished third after Graf and Kenneth Mangan, who defeated her in the Democratic primary.

In the 1st District, which stretches from Shoreham east through the North Fork, Suffolk Legis. Minority Leader Daniel Losquadro (R-Shoreham) was in a dead heat with Democratic Assemb. Marc Alessi.

In the 20th District, Assemb. Harvey Weisenberg (D-Long Beach) defeated challenger Joshua S. Wanderer, a Republican.

The races included two for open seats in Nassau County.

In the 21st District, Republican Edward P. Ra of Franklin Square won in a three-way race for the seat of retiring Republican Assemb. Thomas Alfano. Patrick Nicolosi, a Democratic Party outsider, had bested the party-backed candidate, Mimi Pierre Johnson, in the primary, but she remained in the race on the Working Families Party line.

In the 14th District, Republican Lynbrook Mayor Brian Curran defeated Democrat Dermond Thomas for the seat of retiring Republican Assemb. Robert Barra.
