Fifth Avenue between Drayton and Connecticut Avenues in Bay Shore reopened to traffic as of 7:30 p.m. Sunday, after being shut down earlier in the day as firefighters worked to contain a fire.

Brentwood Fire District officials said the road had been closed at about 5 p.m. as the department, along with the West Islip and East Brentwood fire departments, worked to quench a mulch fire at Hubbard Sand and Gravel, 1612 Fifth Ave.

A Brentwood Fire District spokesman said the fire was declared "under control" about 6:15 p.m.
