Police: Three injured in fight after Wyandanch football game
Multiple people were stabbed in a melee that broke out after Wyandanch Memorial High School's homecoming football game Saturday, a school district spokesman said.
Three people suffered nonlife-threatening injuries in the fight and were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, Suffolk police said.
Police couldn't immediately say how many of the victims suffered stab wounds or why the fight broke out. The fight happened shortly after 5 p.m., following Wyandanch's homecoming game against Southampton, police said.
"We regret that anything like this happened," district spokesman Nathan Jackson said. "We had a bad season. This is the first good game we played. We really regret that something like this happened on homecoming day."
It does not appear that Wyandanch students were involved, Jackson said, citing preliminary reports from police.
"The early report is that they were visitors -- people from Copiague and Amityville -- who got into it," he said.
A Southampton school district spokeswoman said students from that school weren't involved in the fight.
Saturday's fight comes a day after a similar incident in which Kamal Williams, 17, of Melville, was arrested on suspicion of stabbing a 19-year-old man after a football game at Half Hollow Hills High School East on Friday night.
