Fire breaks out at Lawrence Aviation site

Officials responded to a fire on the grounds of an inactive manufacturing complex in Port Jefferson Station Sunday night, according to a spokesman for the Terryville Fire Department.
Calls reporting the fire at Lawrence Aviation Industries came in about 9 p.m., officials said.
The 126-acre complex consists of 10 buildings and lies next to an abandoned lagoon filled with liquid wastes, according to the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's website.
Authorities from the Terryville Fire Department, Port Jefferson Fire Department, and Suffolk County police were among several agencies responding to the blaze Sunday night.
