Fire damages Halesite commercial building

A fire in a two-story professional building in Huntington damaged half a dozen office spaces before it was put out Monday night, Halesite Fire Department chief Dan McConnell said.

No one was injured and the building at 175 East Main St. was empty when firefighters arrived after the call came in at 8:27 p.m. he said. The fire was under control by 10:15, McConnell said.

There were no structural collapses but about 25 percent of the building, which lists many doctors' offices and medical practices, was damaged from smoke or water, he said.

The fire started in a rear corner office that appeared gutted by fire Monday night.

Suffolk County police shut down a section of Route 25A as fire trucks filled the street.

Firefighters from Halesite, Huntington, Huntington Manor, Center Port and Greenlawn responded.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
